Provide First Aid (Includes CPR)
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (Includes CPR) is the minimum requirement for workplace first aid compliance in Australia. In this course you will learn the skills and knowledge to respond to and manage first aid incidents, providing care until qualified emergency help arrives.
Training is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and is suitable for workplaces, community volunteers, parents, carers and anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency.
The course is blended: students complete self-paced e-Learning (around 6 hours) before attending a 4-hour face-to-face training and assessment session on campus.
Where this qualification can take you
- Recognise and assess an emergency and ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty
- Perform CPR and use an AED in line with ARC guidelines
- Manage bleeding, shock, fractures, burns, bites, poisoning and envenomation
- Respond to medical conditions including anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, seizures and stroke
- Communicate incident details to emergency services and complete workplace incident reports
- Meet workplace first aid compliance requirements as a nominated first aider
Units of competency
This qualification comprises 3 core units.
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
- HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
How you'll be assessed
- Online pre-course e-Learning and knowledge questions
- Written short-answer assessment
- Practical CPR demonstration on an adult manikin (minimum 2 minutes uninterrupted)
- Scenario-based assessments covering bleeding, fractures, anaphylaxis, asthma, seizures and other emergencies

Licensing & regulatory information
Certification is valid for 3 years, with the CPR component (HLTAID009) recommended to be refreshed every 12 months in line with Safe Work Australia guidance. A PDF Statement of Attainment is issued on successful completion of all assessments and verification of the student's USI.

Entry requirements
- Be at least 15 years of age
- Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills
- Have the ability to read and write English
- Arrive in suitable attire, including long pants and closed-in shoes
