Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)
The unit of competency CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry is the SafeWork NSW approved General Construction Induction (White Card) course for anyone seeking work or preparing to work on an Australian construction site. The course is suitable for apprentices, tradies, labourers, owner-builders, site visitors and backpackers who need site access.
Delivered face-to-face in a single day, the training covers WHS roles and responsibilities, risk management, common construction hazards and control measures, key industry documents and safe work practices. PPE is provided and no prior experience is required. On successful completion, students receive a Statement of Attainment the same day so they can start work immediately, with the physical White Card mailed by SafeWork NSW shortly after.
Where this qualification can take you
- Identify and understand the roles, responsibilities and rights of WHS duty holders on a construction site
- Apply construction risk management processes to identify hazards and select control measures
- Recognise common construction hazards including working at heights, electrical, manual handling, hazardous substances and plant
- Interpret key construction industry documents such as SWMS, JSAs and safety signage
- Follow safe work practices, emergency response procedures and incident reporting requirements
- Gain site access as a construction worker, apprentice, subcontractor or site visitor anywhere in Australia

Licensing & regulatory information
SafeWork NSW approved General Construction Induction (RTO 800042). On successful completion students receive a Nationally Accredited Statement of Attainment and a Statement of Training (SOT) on the day for immediate start on site. The physical White Card is issued and mailed by SafeWork NSW; licence fees are payable directly to SafeWork NSW once training is completed. The White Card is recognised across all Australian states and territories.

Entry requirements
To attend the AHMI White Card course, participants must:
- Be at least 14 years old.
- Provide 100 points of identification, such as a passport, driver’s licence, or birth certificate. Learn more about 100 points of ID →

- Have basic English language skills, as all assessments are conducted in English.
